David Tennant Opens Up About Working With Matt Smith

It would have been dreadful for Whovians around the world if the Tenth and Eleventh Doctor had not gotten along during the all-important and sure-to-be awesome 50th Anniversary episode. But never fear. David Tennant says he and Matt Smith are like brothers to each other.
"I suppose you’d expect me to say we’re new best friends and I love him like a brother. But that is sort of how it was," said Tennant.
In a previous interview, Smith had expressed the same feelings, saying, “I think Ten and Eleven actually like each other. David and I do in real life as well, and our Doctors are quite collaborative.”
A perennial fan favorite, Tennant handed over the TARDIS to Smith in 2010 but has returned for the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary special, airing in November.

In footage released of the two actors speaking about being the special and beloved Time Lord, it is clear they have a great camaraderie. As Tennant points out, they have to; Doctor Who is a unique situation because when else does the same character, played by different actors, get the opportunity to meet?
"It’s a quite rare set of circumstances. Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig don’t get to play James Bond next to each other,” Tennant said. “But actually it felt familiar enough that it was like coming home and working with Matt proved to be a real joy."
"I hope I’m speaking for him when I say we really enjoyed bouncing of each other and playing sort of two aspects of the same character,” Tennant continued. “It was everything that I hoped it might be and nothing that I feared it could be."
Whovians are certainly excited to see Tennant stepping back into his brown pinstriped suit and white Converse. He is accompanied by the Tenth Doctor’s first companion, Rose Tyler (Billie Piper) when the two meet up with Smith’s Eleventh Doctor and Clara (Jenna Coleman) in the anniversary episode. John Hurt, the Dalek, and the Zygons are also set to appear in the special.
The 50th anniversary will also serve as Smith’s penultimate episode. He will regenerate in the Christmas special with Peter Capaldi stepping in as the Twelfth Doctor.
